In addition, it is possible to adjust the mural to complex spaces such as stairs, beamed ceilings, coved spaces or gabled ceilings.

We need to differentiate them from what we call wallpaper murals. panoramic panels which, on the contrary, are not made to measure, but are pre-printed with predetermined measurements.

How to measure a wall for a wallpaper mural

It is advisable to buy a wallpaper mural that is slightly larger than the available space in order to be able to trim and fit it precisely.

When it comes to taking measurements, it is very simple. We offer you some tricks so that you do not have problems when ordering your wallpaper mural.

measuring a rectangular wall

If the wall you want to put the mural on is rectangular, you only have to measure the width of the wall and the height.

For example, suppose a wall is 3,85m long and 2,47m high.

1 — Calculate the width of the mural

the murals they are not printed in one piece but in panels (strips), normally 50cms long. There are exceptions in which this varies (metallic finishes, linen, silk, etc.).

Knowing the width of each strip, we divide the width of our wall by the width of each strip (3,85 /0,5). In our case, 7,7 strips are obtained.

Since it's not possible to print just one chunk, we round it up to a whole number.

So, we need 8 strips that will extend in 4 meters (8 x 0,5 = 4m).

In this way, we will have enough margin to manipulate the paper, cut it out and place it exactly on our 3,85-inch wall. metros.

2 — Measure height

Regarding the height, we simply have to adjust the measurement to a multiple of 5. In our case, the height of 2,47 must be rounded to 2,50 meters.

3 — Calculating the surface to print

We already have the length and height of our mural and we can calculate the surface to be printed, resulting 10 m² (4 x 2,50 = 10m).

Keep in mind that the murals are budgeted per m², so you can already calculate the cost of the paper.

What happens with doors, windows…?

If the wall has windows, doors, radiators... or other "obstacles" do not take them into account.

It is about measuring the metrowall linear s, regardless of whether there is a gap that is not covered, because we will paper the loading area of the door, of the window..., etc. Remember that the paper is printed in full rectangular strips and is not punched at this time. Paper will be clipped during installation, to adjust it exactly to your space and its irregularities.

Calculations for several walls

If you want to place the mural on two consecutive walls, really for practical purposes, it is as if it were only one.

Measure the length of the two walls and divide the resulting sum by the width of the strip (usually 0,50m), as indicated above.

Irregular or oblique roofs

If your wall is gabled, gabled or you have a beam or mochet, always measure the highest part and omit the rest.

Here is a simulation for a room with a gabled roof:

15 strips of 0,5m long each were printed, to cover a wall of 3,20m (at the highest point) and 7,40m long. To give the shape of the roof, the strips were cut, adjusting with total accuracy.

What happens if I fall short in the measurement?

Es something to avoid Following the instructions above, please don't skimp on this.

If the print does not cover the entire desired surface, you will have an undesirable cut in the drawing, difficult to hide.

In the same way, as we have mentioned, it is necessary that there is some paper left over, so that the installer can cut it out and adjust it precisely to your wall.
